3 Ways to Build Self-Esteem

Having confidence helps individuals achieve success. When you believe you can accomplish something, nothing can stop you from reaching that goal. Equally important, having confidence and positive self-esteem can help you live a more fulfilling life. Here are 3 ways you can build confidence and self-esteem.

1. Put the Brakes on Self-Criticism

In order to grow as a person, you have to stop the negative self-talk. Some questions to ask yourself are:

  • Is there any evidence that this thought is true?

  • Would a close friend or family member agree that this thought is true?

Most likely, the answer to these questions will be no. When you continuously answer no, you will start to consider additional perspectives than what you originally perceived.

2. Keep Your Commitments

When you agree to do something, it is important that you keep your word whenever possible. By not doing so, you can lose faith in your ability to get results. Empower yourself by always keeping your commitments to yourself and others.

3. Keep a Journal

In this journal, you will write down all of your victories. Writing down successes helps you to remember them better. The successes can be small. Write these down daily and whenever you need a confidence boost, reread what you have written down.
